There are many rules and regulations that are set out by local governments that pertain to the basic fire safety of commercial buildings, residential buildings and overall precautions. Devices are used to promote basic fire safety like smoke detectors, alarm systems and fire extinguishers. However, people are encouraged to get familiar with some life saving tips that involve basic fire safety. First off, people should always have a plan of escape for their building. It's important to have an escape route mapped out for everyone to see in case there is a fire.

Basic fire safety also involves fire drills, where people practice the escape route as a unit. Along with every fire escape plan, basic fire safety also involves a meeting place as well. A meeting place is necessary in order to get a head count of everyone who was in the building. These basic fire safety practices are common in work environments, but they should also be practiced by families at home. In addition to having a fire escape plan at home, the neighborhood should also have a plan as well.
Another basic fire safety precaution that people should consider is memorizing emergency numbers. People who memorize emergence numbers are able to save lives without having to take the time to find out what number to call during an emergency. Basic fire safety also involves making sure that people who are older or younger be helped during an evacuation. State and local governments have rules and regulations that govern where basic fire safety equipment should be located in work environments.
Basic fire safety equipment like fire extinguishers and smoke alarms are the most popular types of devices that are known to save people's lives. Fire extinguishers should be checked on a regular basis in order to ensure it is ready for an emergency. Smoke alarms should also be checked on a regular basis as well in order to be better prepared for a possible fire in the future. Fire safety also involves practicing escape by keeping low in order to minimize the amount of toxic smoke that could be inhaled during evacuation.
