I have spent a lot of time lately remodeling my home. One of the things I have been having a hard time finding the perfect solution for is the lighting I want in my living room. I have a large room with slightly vaulted ceilings, and I would like to use lighting for visual effect as well as illumination. The off the shelf lighting options simply are not quite cutting it for me, so I have been looking into doing a custom lighting job in that room. My big problem is that I do not want to spend a ton of money on custom lighting, in fact, I do all the work myself and would like a custom lighting project that is designed by me and installed by me. There are various ways to install custom lighting, including powered strips that allow light fixtures to be slid and positioned in different locations along the strip. I like this idea because it allows me the freedom of moving the light around to focus the beams of different areas of the room in case I ever decide to change my decor and furniture arrangement.
I believe that I have the technical skills needed to handle the installation of the electrical aspects of custom lighting just as long as I do not go for anything too out of the ordinary or intricate. I am not that great at fishing twelve gauge copper wire through walls, so I may use a conduit on the wall surface if it is necessary to run wire. I will have to check with my local wiring code, because who knows what is and is not legal and to code these days. I any case, I have to sketch up some designs before I begin to buy any parts for this custom lighting project, and when I do buy those parts, I am going to search around for the cheapest decent quality ones I can find!
