As the year 2012 begins, some of us may want a change of style: in our clothes, shoes, hair and makeup. Are you tired of the old looks? Wearing hair extensions is not a bad idea. After all, this is the IN thing in the world of hair fashion. Hair extensions allow us to change the length, color, and volume of our hair without waiting for it to grow in its own slow pace. The nice thing about this is that our hair need not be “tortured” by exposing it to damaging treatments like bleaching, heating, and perming.

Once decided, you can discuss with your favorite hairdresser whether you prefer the natural Remy hair, which is 100 % human hair, or synthetics. You need not be stuck with straight hair. Wavy hair extensions are great. They add grace to facial features.

Speaking of wavy hair extensions, there are a lot of them in the market. They can be of loose flowing waves or tight African curls. Spiral curls are also exciting to wear, and so is the Spanish style, which may appear wet and wavy. The Brazilian Wave is also beautiful.

The hairdresser will discuss with you the different methods or techniques used in applying hair extensions. They are really too numerous to mention, but these methods below are the basic and popular ones.

Glue/bond-based attachments – this method uses substances to attach to the hair. It may be glue, wax, or keratin bond. The process may use the hot Microfusion method or the Cold Fusion method. Some salons use keratin-based special adhesives.

Non-glue attachments – this method uses tiny rings. Strands of hair are looped inside these rings, combined with the hair extension, and then clamped shut. This hair extension method is also known as microbead, microring, microloop, microlink, microcylinder, or microchet.

Weft hair techniques – a curtain of hair attached at the top and free flowing at the bottom may be attached on the hairline. This hair track which may be several inches long is called the weft. Some sites call these human hair weaves. They can be applied by weaving into your braided hair, sewn in, slipped inside a micro link, bonded, or taped in.

Clip-on attachments – this is the cheapest and the easiest type, because they are temporary. This can be applied in the comfort our own dressing room in our homes without the assistance of a hair stylist. As the name implies, they are clipped on into the natural hair, and then removed when retiring at night. This is available in assorted colors and shades, in different lengths and texture. It can come as straight hair or wavy hair extensions.

Have a thorough dialogue with your hairdresser. He/she knows best what is type is good for you.  As there are different kinds of individuals, so there are different types of hair. He/she should elaborately discuss with you the different methods so you can have several options to think over.
