You may have many doubts and questions regarding non-surgical cures for your deviated septum. I have searched the internet, and I have found a few answers as given by ENT specialists on commonly asked deviated septum questions. Hope this helps you.

Will Injections Work for My Deviated Septum?

As of today there is no magic injection which can cure a deviated nasal septum. While in the future an injection may be developed whose contents can degrade bone and cartilage in a controlled manner, as of today no such injection is available.

Is Surgery the Only Option?

Well the answer to this condition depends on how severe your deviation is. Based on amount of deviation, people are classified into three groups:

Class One: Minor deviation, no symptoms, requires no treatment
Class Two: Medium deviation, few symptoms such as congestion, symptoms can be prevented by non-surgical means (not permanent)
Class Three: Severe deviation, symptoms such as nose bleeds and recurring sinus infection, surgical treatment is the only option

If you belong to class two or three, then surgery is your only option for a permanent cure. While medication and other treatments can be used to cure the symptoms temporarily, they will return since the root problem (the deviation of the septum) is not cured.  As of such the best treatment available which is also the only permanent cure is surgery.

Do People with Nasal Congestion require Surgery?

If the deviation is minor and only partial nasal blockage or congestion is observed, then over the counter medication such as nasal sprays, decongestants, anti-histamines and steroid sprays can be used.

But if the deviation is major or severe, surgery is a must.
